Protect Your Driving Record

Have you received a ticket for speeding, careless driving, failure to signal, or any other traffic violation? If so, it may be worth it to fight that ticket, especially if you are a truck driver.

Most citations carry with them points that will be added to your driving record, even if you aren’t licensed in Pennsylvania. In the case of more serious and/or repeat offenses, you may also be facing a license suspension for anywhere from ten (10) days to twelve (12) months and increased insurance premiums. If you were operating a commercial vehicle at the time of the offense, the penalties are much more severe.

Out of State Motorists

The Driver’s License Compact (“DLC”) is an agreement between states, which means that even if you aren’t licensed in Pennsylvania any ticket you receive here may still impact your driving privileges at home.  The DLC is a compact among 46 member states to maximize law enforcement efforts nationwide.  The major provisions of the DLC, include:

  • The “one driver license” concept, which requires the surrender of an out-of-state driver’s license when application for a new license is made;
  • The “one driver record” concept, which requires that a complete driver record be maintained in the driver’s state of residence to determine driving eligibility in the home state, as well as for his non-residence operator’s privilege in other jurisdictions;
  • Reporting of all traffic convictions and license suspension/revocations of out-of-state drivers to the home state licensing agency, as well as other appropriate information;
  • The assurance of uniform and predictable treatment of drivers by treating offenses committed in other states as though they have been committed in the home state.

The attorneys at Martson Law Offices understand that your driving privilege is essential to your livelihood and is a symbol of your freedom.  We will fight or negotiate traffic tickets to get charges – and points – reduced or eliminated.
